The Presbyterian Church in Australia
St Luke’s Roseville is part of the Presbyterian Church of Australia. You will find some brief information about our Denomination on our ‘Home’ and ‘About Us” pages. For more details click the links to the Presbyterian Church of Australia or to the New South Wales State Website. At Roseville we use both symbols of the Church old (Crest) and new (Logo).
The Crest is etched on internal entrance doors to the main auditorium. The Logo is used on our Newsletter, weekly Parish Bulletin, stationary and advertising.
The Meaning of the Symbols.
Crest

The Latin Cross is the universal symbol of the Christian Faith, signifying that we are part of the Holy Catholic Church (World Wide Christian Church). It reminds us of our Worldwide Fellowship with other members of the Body Of Christ.
The St. Andrews Cross indicates our historical association with the Scottish Church, and pays tribute to the pioneers who bought with them to this new land the form of worship and government that they knew and loved.
The Rose, Thistle and Shamrock are reminders that not all Presbyterian pioneers came from Scotland, but from England and Ireland as well.
The Stars of the Southern Cross, superimposed on the bush, show that we have become an Independent Church in our own right, seeking to make our own peculiar contribution to the life of this Southern continent.
The Central Burning Bush that dominates the Crest and the Latin words tell of the reformed Church that came successfully through all the fires of persecution of four centuries of struggle with unconquerable faith and declare that the Church of God can never be utterly destroyed, for it is not human institution, but the creation of God Himself.
Logo

Our church's modern logo was approved by the 2001 General Assembly of Australia. It stated: 'Without disowning the current Crest(s), approve and adopt the design and description of the logo, as presented… as another visual emblem of the Church'. The design reminds us that we need to be"Going forward with the Gospel to Australia".
It consists of a vertical, contrasting, stylised cross surrounded by 5 five-pointed stars in the form of the Southern Cross, positioned on a solid oval angled at 30 degrees.
The Oval is a simple and modern shape. Its forward tilting symbolises our church's desire to move out into the world with the gospel.
The towering Cross symbolises the powerful message of the Gospel. Its central position reminds us that Christ is the centre of the church.
The Stars roughly form the Southern Cross, the most recognised and universally accepted symbol of Australia. Their five-point design is taken from our Church Crest.
The blue Colours symbolise the clear blue Australian skies.
